Text Message from Housing Benefit?

I have just received a text message stating that a housing benefit payment will be made into my account within the next 5 days for the period of 1/8 to 1/9. It is for the exact amount of benefit I have received for the past 5 years in the same time frame as normal? Nothing has changed in my circumstances so why have they suddenly chosen to inform me about a regular payment through text?

I cannot call, I have schizophrenia and telephones are a huge trigger. My carer is away until Wednesday so I especially cannot call in case it causes an episode.

Please does anyone have an idea why I received this text? I am worrying so much. Than you for reading.

If this is the first text you have ever received from them then I would guess that they have just introduced a new system, where they text claimants when their payments are sent. You'll probably recieve one every month now.

If the amount & timescale is the same as usual then there is certainly nothing to worry about.
  • Deep breath, I bet they are using a new way to keep you informed of your payment. No need to call them.

It's nice to know they took the time to keep you up to date.

I wish more agencies would use text to keep us informed.

    Kind thoughts.

Agree absolutely with the above posters - they have discovered new technology!

    Nothing to worry about.

Another reason they may have done it as a one off is because of the Bank Holiday and being inundated with calls from people as to when their HB will be paid.
  • My local office have just started a new text scheme too....so it's nothing to worry about, they didn't tell us in advance either, we just started getting texts.....

They text me about the weather and school closures too.... They text me more than anyone else in fact :p
Its all mind over matter. I don't mind and you don't matter:rotfl:

Housing Benefit payments are so critical to non payment of rent which can cause other serious problems.

People often find too late that payments have stopped without notice and without chance to do something until they spot that HB payments have stopped.

So it's good that HB are confirming when payments are made.
  • That is such a relief, thank you to all of you. Now I now what it is I think it might help me if it is monthly because I do worry about everything. Everyone here is so kind, this forum is a Godesend.
