Parking eye. I put wrong reg. no. In machine.

Options
A few months ago we parked in a hotel car park, put the right money in the machine for 4 hours but tapped the last digit of our reg number wrongly. Did'nt think it would matter because we'd paid all that money. We left after 3 hours an 5 mins. Some time later we got our first demand for money from PE saying we had overstayed by 5 mins and they would like their usual amount of cash. We ignored this letter and the next one because that was the advise we had followed from the Internet 2 years ago. BUT having read all these post are a bit concerned now. The other day when we were out the post man tried to deliver a registered letter. We are not expecting anything important so could this be a court summons?

Could be. Who knows. Or more likely a Letter Before Action, which PE are now favouring as an initial step.

Bit late now, but maybe you should have appealed as you were within any sensible "grace period". You could always get in touch now, and fess up who the driver was (if it was a different person from the keeper), and thus reset the clock, allowing an appeal. Even if that letter is an LBA, you could still take this approach.

You need to write to Parking Eye. as per the letter I suggested here https://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/discussion/4654699 You will see that it won a cancellation.

    Do it now.

And in your response (if it is an LBA) ask them to check their records again because you did pay and there will be a record of a payment made against a similar car reg number only with the wrong final digit. Say you are 'surprised their mandatory checks of their records they are expected to have made at each site (as an AOS member) didn't flag this up sooner because it must have been obvious there was a payment made regarding a similar car reg. But you are keen to resolve the matter without overly involving the Hotel in the complaint yet'. But also see zzzLazyDaisy's thread linked below about how to respond, as there is more to say to PE than that.

But in reality, DO complain to the Hotel as well, right now, because it sound as though this is the 'last chance saloon' letter before small claim and you don't need this harassment by the Hotel's agents! See all these successes when people complained:

If the Hotel Manager is unhelpful ask to escalate the complaint to an area Manager as you are minded to post a negative review on TripAdvisor in view of this horrendous treatment of a paying customer in the car park.

When you open the letter, if it's an LBA then read this:

    and this:

So you need to do BOTH things, respond to PE and complain to the Hotel.
