Buying in to alternative power

I want to invest in green energy and was reading somewhere that the Société Géné-rale’s energy protected fund is a good one to go for. I am well aware that the recent hype in the green energy business could all blow up like the dot com bubble but with the depletion of the world's oil stock sooner or later an alternative will have to take over so I'm willing to risk a small amount of money for the long term. What I need to know is how do I go about it? If I wanted to spend around a thosand pounds in the above fund where do i go and how much will it cost?

    Thor

    have a look at http://uk.biz.yahoo.com/mutualfunds/manager/sbsoabut.html

this shows fund performance. TBH I can't see your fund - is that hte correct name? - I have assummed it is a mutual fund.

You can also look for fund headings, I had a quick view of the socially responsible http://uk.biz.yahoo.com/mutualfunds/specialist/socially_responsible.html

You can see charge structures and returns so far. You may want to invest it via an ISA to get the tax benefit - but you need to speak to an IFA (I am not one of those)

    good luck

I should think that these days there are a few "green" funds available, especially from the big unit trust companies like Investco, Perpetual, M & G etc.

By the way I really wanted to ask if you are the Thor who is a computer wizard. I used to ask for advice if I had a problem with my PC on one of the Usenet groups, maybe alt.computer and I always got the kindest and most helpful responses froma gent called Thor. He didn't mind that I am a novice.

Sorry Jake, I'm not that Thor. There are a few of us around the Net it seems although I would like to think that we can all be as kind as the one who helped you so much.
