That's not CAT cable it's 3 pair twisted pair cable and only 1 pair is used . I have been a telephone technician for 40 years so I think I know what I'm talking about.

Didn't mean to start a techie skirmish!

Situation the same here. BT failed to respond to the 'emergency/welfare' report and seemed to have failed to send the paperwork to the engineers so it seems that the 30 hour repair timeline has to start again. And they failed to activate the call divert process for 24hours until I prodded.

Anyway...I am pleased to hear that what I considered 'weird' appears to be quite normal. She's happy with broadband access, her calls are coming to my mobile and BT are as slow as ever. Bank holiday rules!!

    Thanks everyone.

Yea BT customer service seem to be lacking but I think they are not alone in that.

Engineer fixed this about 1.00pm today. Said (I wasn't there) that a wire had been disconnected/cut. Will persue this aspect with BT.

    Thanks again.
  • I recently had to replace a BT master socket (due to someone driving a vacuum cleaner into it, cracking the case).

I know that officially it is only BT that are allowed to replace this, but as they charge £99 for what is a 5 minute job and as I've been a radio engineer for 30+ years. I decided to do it myself and the only cost was £6 for the new box.

I can confirm 100% that there were only 2 wires ( one twisted pair) on the input to the socket.
