Two months to the day since putting in our offer we are completing on our first house purchase!
Firstly id like to say Many Thanks to all the info on the forum! It really is an invaluable tool when you've never done something like this before!
We collect the keys this afternoon and are moving tomorrow so my question is...... Does anyone have advice for moving day? Do's and don'ts?
Cheers!

Oh dear Lord - where on earth should we start?
Do you have any specific questions?I work in the 'moving industry'. My frame of reference is around 20 years and circa 27,000 domestic moves.0 -
So you're completing today im assuming? Probably first thing is go to the house, make sure everything is in order and give it a right good clean, dust, vac etc.
Because once you're stuff is in it's like a giant game of jenga.0 -
I have moved countless of times plus helped my parents move last year.
Do
- have kettle, coffee, tea, sugar, milk, mugs (enough for you and moving men if using) and biscuits to hand. They keep things moving! Best to use old mugs. If your mugs are decent, a quick trip to a charity shop will do. Doesn't matter if you drink your tea from a mug with some conference from 1995 written on it.
. Have loo roll available
. Have enough plates, knives, forks etc for your household for that takeaway.
. Have your bedding and toiletries accessible as you need it from day 1. My parents packed a bag with toiletries and 2-3 days of clothing.
. Keep calm. Shouting and falling out does not solve things0 -
Take meter readings as soon as you get the keys0

Dunno if that helps/is applicable! They managed to pack my cat basket which I had to locate in tonnes of boxes in the garage (took her to mum's the night before). My list kept growing and got to the stage where I seemed to have more out than packed lol (well, not quite, but it felt like it!).
As it happened, they packed half of what I'd left out and I couldn't locate things once they were unpacked the other end. All that organising and it just goes t*ts up on the day! They'd wrap and pack the cat if I'd not already taken her to my mum's the day before!

PS a lot was stuff to go on the lorry, but to be easily located once at the other end.

Really!
I've now been in my new house three weeks and am still rushing around finding space for all of the stuff that arrived in boxes. Priority number 1 was most definitely buying/fitting all of the new shelving that I required.
Still haven't read the gas meter (don't have on of their magic keys and the trick of opening it with a pair or pliers didn't work).
It'll sort itself out

Indeed, it'll sort itself out with a big fat bill :P:www: Progress Report :www:
Offer accepted: £107'000
Deposit: £23'000
Mortgage approved for: £84'000
Exchanged: 2/3/16
:T ... complete on 9/3/16 ... :T0 -

You will be paying for the previous occupants gas/electric then, are you happy about that, you have no way to prove you have not used it/they used it
Do you?Been here for a long time and don't often post

I would say get your bed(s) up and made so you can just fall in to at the end of the day.
Box with kettle and tea/coffee making supplies taken in the car.
And the address of a local takeaway and cash to go and get one as you will not feel like cooking at the end of the day.
Yours
