Housing benefit for living at a B&B?

Still no clearer if you're moving in or not!
You can claim JSA if you have no fixed abode. You will need a care of address, but that can be a JCP office if nowhere else is suitable.
Can you not register as living with (and stay with) someone for the next few months? That seems the most logical solution. The council are correct, the exemption cannot apply if it is your sole/ main residence.0 -

I've said twice that I have to move in - regardless of the state it's in - in 2 months time when the current insurance runs out.
JSA office have told me that a 'care of' address is not acceptable and that they will suspend my benefit while I'm NFA, hence my desperation.
If I could register as living with someone I would have done so by now as, like you say, it's the most logical solution. i'm not able to do that without the permission of the householder and nobody is willing to let me do so as it will have a detrimental effect on their benefits, even if I wasn't paying them any money for letting me stay.0 -

For many of us, living without central heating is hardly history.;)
Just move back in and get on with it, you can then claim JSA and CT benefit. I'm sure your friends will be happier to let you shower there a couple of times a week rather than sleeping on their sofas full time.0 -

They're wrong - ask to speak to a team leader.
Do you not have any friends that are not on benefits? It is your only viable solution, the exemption criteria are not flexible, and the state is not going to pay for you to live elsewhere.0 -
Why not just move into your own house ( assuming you have a working loo and cold water)?
You can boil water and wash down at the hand basin?0 -
No gas fire?
Also a small heater in one room is very cost effective with coats and layers.
Or
Put your home up for sale and its disregarded for 6 monthsTomorrow is the most important thing in life0 -
How on earth do you think those who live in rural areas with no running water, electricity or heating manage? Get one room cleaned up and camp out in it. Treat it as an adventure

I don't think you would be able to get Housing Benefit to pay for a B & B as when I applied last year you had to produce a letter from your landlord or a tenancy agreement but you wouldn't have a landlord. They do pay it for emergency housing (when people are placed in a B & B because they're homeless) but I think this is a special arrangement and not necessarily one you could choose.0

Sleeping bag, camp bed, kettle/urn, camping stove/electric plug in hob.
How do you think the homeless cope on the streets, they don't even have a roof over their heads most of the time!0 -
You wouldn't get HB for a B&B - you own a property that you paid cash for so if it has a capital value of more than £16k it will disqualify you from HB.These are my own views and you should seek advice from your local Benefits Department or CAB.0
