Laptop Power Socket Broken - any advice?

Wonder if anyone can help?
We have an HP laptop (about 4 years old) and the power socket has suddenly stopped working, in that it doesn't seem to recognise the power cable and doesn't charge. We thought it was the charging cable so we bought a replacement from someone on the web but no luck.
So, does anyone have any ideas on how to fix this or something we can buy to fix it? Any suggestions greatly received!!!
Thanks! :beer:

This is a quite common, especially with rounded sockets..
First thing to try would be plug it in without the battery attached. see if any lights come on.
If no, then it is probably either the connector/connections on the motherboard (dry solder joint/crack on board etc), or possibly a faulty motherboard. The first of those could possibly be fixed if you are handy with a soldering iron, the seconds is probably going to be expensive, it may be cheaper to get a new laptop.Ever get the feeling you are wasting your time? :rolleyes:0 -
AHH my FS L7300 did this, now , if you PM me the model and make i may be able to source a new socket.. then its a case of De-Soulering the old and repaling it with a new 1... im 15 and i did mine ok!! some places charge £50 - £100 to get it done... you can get it done yourself for less than a tenner!0

Most laptops have a rectangular connector on the bottom, usually with a self-closing protective cover. This replicates all, or at least most of the rear connections, and in some cases adds extra ports with the docking station (or port replicator) connected.
Just had a very quick google, and found this text;
PLEASE NOTE - Not all models in the ze range will allow a port replicator to be used. Please check that there is actually a socket under the rubber cover at the bottom of the laptop for the port replicator to slot on before ordering.
I would check if yours has the connector before proceeding down this route.
