Why have I started getting junk messages in my inbox - hotmail

I have my hotmail account set as "exclusive" so I only get messages from safe senders. But in the last couple of days I have started getting a few rogue messages in my inbox. I still get lots of messages in my junk folder but why are messages from " dfdfddf@hotmail.com" getting through.

Thanks

• I'm having the exact same problem. Hotmail says that the address is a contact but when I go to my contact list it is not there. Blocking the address also does not work. Is this some kind of virus? Did you find out anything about it paul2louise?

Not had any help from the outlook people. I posted on the outlook forum and someone posted this

think I know what the problem is as i just posted it this morning.
Try and do a "reply" to the junk message (but don't hit send) that got through your exclusivity and your anti-sp
am rules.

You may notice:
1) There are multiple "From" fields!!! (yes this is legal for some illogical reason)
2) The first "From" field is EMPTY (that's how it is avoiding your rules!!! Nothing to Rule against!)
3) YOUR email may be the second "From" field. You can't block yourself so it busts your rules again!!

4) the last "From" email is the spammers.

Outlook probably only tests the first "From" field and because it is blank it NEVER FAILS THE EXCLUSIVITY TESTS OR YOUR RULE TESTS!

This is a NASTY oversight by the Outlook developer's. An edge case they never foresaw and spammers are completely exploiting it.

Until the QA people on this site WAKE UP and realize this is a serious problem that should be elevated to the developers this will never get fixed. (I am a software engineer with 20+ years of development experience myself so I know how this process works. They are afraid to send it up the chain.)
• Just thought I'd reply to say the exact same spam is coming to me from dfdfddf@hotmail.com. As the previous post suggests the first 'from' is blank, the second is my email address and the third is the spam one.

Emails come straight through to my inbox (Vanquis credit seems to be used a lot). This has only started in the last couple of days. Now getting 4 or 5 a day.

How do you report this to Mircrosoft? If it's an outlook loophole surely all hotmail users will end up being spammed in this way?

I don't know what to do either. I get the vanquis credit one a lot. It is really annoying. If I find out what to do I will post here. Same goes for anyone else.

Can you not block it by using the rule "if SUBJECT contains <string>. then send to junk"?

I haven't seen this spam mail (yet), so I don't know if the SUBJECT does contain a consistent <string>.

If there are several consistent strings, you can add a rule for each string.

Not sure, I will try and see if any matches
• Thank for the info. The same applies to me, first from box is empty. Also getting a lot from Vanquis. I don't think there is a consistent subject string as emails seem to come from different companies but same address so different subjects. Hope Microsoft fix this soon!
• Having looked into this a little further, when I use the drop down menu it comes up with an email address from Vanquis but states that 'the sender is in my contacts list'.

I've checked and neither the hotmail or vanquis emails are in my contact list. V strange. Would be interested to see if anyone comes up with a solution. Will try to contact someone in MS Outlook...

For info the start of the email looks like this:

Your First Step To A Fresh Start - Vanquis Bank Visa Credit Card‏

vcbbb (dfdfddf@hotmail.com) 12:30

From: UKVanquisCreditCard@17y.7XFS6G.tlmk.net on behalf of vcbbb (dfdfddf@hotmail.com) This sender is in your contact list.

• I have this really annoying SPAM problem as well. I found a forum post:
"Just started getting junk email from hotmail domains in my Outlook inbox"
at answers.microsoft.com - sorrry not allowed to post a link.
on the subject and the official response is pretty poor (useless). There are some tips others found useful to follow such as removing your own email from your contacts list and blocking senders that have not @ in their from: address.
• The spam I have been receiving has rocketed in recent weeks to about 20 per day. I am horrified. I have my filter set to exclusive but now realise that I must check through like paul2louise suggested.
