My credit rating is poor but i've got a a decent job now and my salary is around 1300 monthly, in the past i've not been good with money and have multiple defaults on my record along with a CCJ.
I clearing that mess up, is it possible getting a current account or should i just continue with my basic account for now?
Any advice appreciated

Your best chance is to ask the bank you currently hold your basic account with whether they would upgrade you to a full current account.

Yes I have a poor credit score and have opened a lloyds tsb cash account which includes a visa debit very basic account but has everything you need.0

if the defaults are over 3 years old and you have no late payments you should be accepted, I suggest the Halifax reward as you get free £5 or the Santander 123 for the cashback but you pay £2 a month fee.
With defaults you wont get any credit except credit cards from cap1, aqua ect so a search wont make a difference to your credit file and drops off after 12 month anyway. Give it a try.0
