Capital one and Lloyds direct debits

I have a DD set up for cap one to pay the full balance. The statement says it will be taken unless the balance is cleared in full.
Does anyone know from experience, if I pay the full balance by debit card, is that considered as paying the balance in full, if there are other unstatemented transactions? What on the day of the DD there are only pending transactions?
I have a DD set up for Lloyds 0% BT to pay £50 per month. The min this month is about £48. If I paid £49 online from my Lloyds current account, would that stop the DD?
(I am not trusting DDs to be taken due to the incompetence of Halifax branch staff - but that's a story which will not be posted on MSE until it's resolved)

Can't speak for Lloyds, but when I had my first two Capital One cards, I paid by card each month and the payment was rarely taken, but when I got my third, the due date was only a few days after my pay day - I still paid it in full each month (and it cleared before the due date), but because it was so close, the DD was already requested, so I went into credit by the minimum payment each month.
Unstatemented transactions (whether pending or on the account) don't count - they base it on the amount shown on the last statement.0 -

If the statement says full payment is £100 and you pay this via debit card or bank transfer, even if there are new transactions after the bill was produced, the direct debit will not be taken.
Be aware that you need to make the payment in full as early as possible, as Capital One requests the direct debit a few days before it's due, so if you pay in full after a certain date, they might still collect the direct debit.

Please do not do this - why set up a D/D to pay the whole amount and then pay a different way.
This sounds like a disaster waiting to happen - OP will then complain about interest charges etc etc.0 -
When are the direct debits due?
As you may find they attempt to collect payment.0 -

Exactly that. Those transactions made after the bill was issued, will be grouped together for the next month's bill. Makes sense, doesn't it?jonesMUFCforever wrote: »Please do not do this - why set up a D/D to pay the whole amount and then pay a different way.

Why? By the way, I have the same combination (Cap 1 card paid by DD in full from a Lloyds TSB account) and this month I had to do the same thing. The reason is that I needed to make some purchases that would otherwise bring my balance above my allowed limit, so I repaid part of the current balance (in order to get enough available to spend) first.
When the day for the DD came and went, I was puzzled at first because it wasn't paid but then I realised what happened. Effectively I had paid the whole statement balance. You wanna hear about my new obsession?
I'm riding high upon a deep recession...0
