Currys

Currys appear to be failing their customers given some recent threads on this Board. Is that because they are the last big national white goods retailer and most people therefore shop there and naturally there will be more complaints about them or have they become complacent because of lack of competition?

They have always failed their customers.

Their customer service record is terrible and they go to incredible lengths to avoid their extended warranties being considered insurance to avoid regulation by the FSA/FCA and the Ombudsman

I would say that the amount of extra Currys threads is consistent with the amount of threads that used to be about Comet.

They actually seem to have been doing well based on a number of recent posts, there are one or two that are actually bad customer service but the others have been pretty good just the customer want's even better.

Like the one where a 4 year old £600 TV failed and they have offered £250 as a refund with no "insurance policy" involved and no threats of court and independent reports. But the customer still wasn't happy.

Also the one today with a six year old TV with insurance that they are offering a good replacement to that in the long run has saved the person £200 but the customer still isn't happy.

There are still complaints on here about them but more and more seem to be the unreasonable expectations of the customer and not the failings of Currys. I just hope they get better now they do pretty much have the monopoly on the highstreet, a change of a few policies and some better staff training could make all the difference.

You will always hear bad things on this board, it's the nature of the consumer rights board.

They are better than what they were 3 or 4 years ago. Still nowhere near John Lewis (although you still get posts on here about them).

Some of the more recent ones such as the gas hob by Pinkshoes would of been easily resolved if their automated telephone system worked, it may be because Hoover changed their number or a fault, but it still Currys problem.

Theres also another thread about a failed delivery from Claire, I'm not sure I agree with them on that. It says the item will be delivered from the manufacturer, the manufacturer called the customer and left a message and the customer never got back in contact with the manufacturer and complained about lack of contact. I don't see what currys did wrong, when informed they gave a refund, but it does state on their website and order confirmation that they will get a call from the manufacturer to arrange delivery, it's not like Currys can phone the manufacture about every delivery and say "Did it go ok?" I think that the bad customer service was with LEC not currys.

And as Foster has said, theres the guy who brought a £2000 TV 6 years ago and believe he should get a £2000 TV now (paraphrasing) instead of spec for spec.

I think it's more that Currys just don't want any contact with their customer as soon as the item is paid for.

They do their best just to get rid of you.

You are totally reliant on the customer service that the manufacturer gives.

People tend to buy from shops BECAUSE they get customer service, which hints that perhaps Currys will fail eventually.

No, I am not perfect, but yes I do judge people on their use of basic English language. If you didn't know the above, then learn it! (If English is your second language, then you are forgiven!)

You would probably need to provide more information. Individual branches could shut for many unrelated reasons. One isolated shop shutting down could just mean a terrible landlord!

I wouldn't, I'd even pay more to avoid it it :)

But seriously you can find everything they sell cheaper elsewhere.

The interesting thing is when we started building our house I thought I was purely a price driven person, by the middle of the build I was more interested in looking the guy in the eye and shaking his hand! Far too many people just don't do what they say they will do which can be a real pain.

Yeah I suppose so, I don't know the full details.

    Sorry
