Shed discounts on loft insulation

Options
Hi
I previous years the DIY sheds normally have loft insulation at knockdown prices e.g. A roll for just a few pounds or buy 1 get 3 free kind of thing. This was obviously funded by some government subsidy. Now I cant find anything less than £20 per roll. Is this because its the wrong time of year and, if so, will prices drop as winter approaches, or do you think these subsidies are over now and I'll just have to bite the bullet ?

Maybe someone in the trade knows something ?

Thanks
Nick

Yes it used to be cheap because it was subsidised by the energy companies under their obligations to help reduce carbon emissions, same as the cheap low energy light bulbs you used to get.

The government has now changed the scheme so the subsidies are now going to other carbon reduction measures delivered through the Green Deal.

If you're on a low income or on benefits you might be eligible for subsidised energy saving measures under the Green Deal ECO scheme.

Yes im afraid that the governmet stopped a good scheme where lots of people were insulating their houses and killed the industry overnight with the Green Deal!
Th green deal is one of the governmets biggest screw ups to date.
  • Someone from a company called B.E. Insulated which he says is part of the government's Green Deal scheme came to the door the other day. According to him people in the area qualify for loft insulation and cavity wall insulation FREE, whether on benefits or not.

Personally I find it odd, off-putting in fact, to be confronted on the doorstep by a salesman and alarm bells are ringing so loudly that I felt the only thing to do was join MSE and see what members make of such a generous-sounding offer.

I've got a surveyor coming over later this week to check the walls, no charge of course....

I've got a young lad who has been given a Hi-Vis surveyor jacket but has no other qualifications whatsoever to advise me coming over later this week to check the walls, no charge of course....

Just amended your post... but it does sound like you are forewarned yourself anyway... :D
