Also to add of POF you can pick specifics for where you DON'T want people to contact you.. e.g, married, wanting sex, under or over a specific age.
You also have a handy block button for any nut jobs lol.Non-smoker since 05/08/20120 -

It doesn't prevent people from simply lying about it though.

To be fair, many a lothario would target the women who have stated they're not interested in men looking for sex. For someone of a certain mindset they represent a challenge, but primarily, if they're not putting it about a bit there's less chance (but certainly not no chance) to catch a nasty from them. They may require a bit more effort but unfortunately for them the male usually has a few on the go at once so doesn't mind taking some time.0 -
I met my husband through match. I did get quite a few weirdos but ignored them, like ill never forget the guy who was 63 (I was 20 at the time) with his profile picture leaning against an old jag, holding a bottle of cava and roses with his best sex offender grin. His first message to me called me sexy and darling and I was probably younger than his possible daughter.
I was about to give up when my now husband messaged me.
My sister has used plenty of fish and has had no end of the tapped, although it might be her!0 -
I met new man through a local dating site, cost about £30 a quarter i think. It was 'countyname'dating.com so could be worth looking for your local one? I think having to pay weeds out some of the worst creeps (although also had a few dubious ones get in touch any way, especially young men looking for a cougar!)[STRIKE][/STRIKE]I am a long term poster using an alter ego for debts and anything where I might mention relationship problems or ex. I hope you understand

I have a profile on OKC and met several guys who were fine (except one who 'forgot' to tell me he was still married and another one who was into BDSM stuff - luckily he did tell me prior to meeting). POF wasn't a good experience, everyone I talked to seemed plain weird so I deleted my account. I also had a voucher for Guardian soulmates for a 1-month membership, but I didn't find it very different than OKC, perhaps less 'noise' and less filtering needed. I wouldn't pay for a dating site.
Is match.com free? or paid?
edit: OKC is okcupid.com0 -

Match is free to sign up but you need to subscribe to [STRIKE]stalk[/STRIKE] send messages etc.0 -
I'm another POF advocate. I met my OH on there 18 months ago and we're happily living together now.
I agree you have to sift through some rubbish to find the nice people but I had around a dozen dates from the site before meeting OH and only 1 of those was with a complete loser!0 -
I tried POF but was put off by the blokes wanting a fling (and that's putting it nicely!) so I went with the theory that if you have to pay for it you're like to be a little more serious about it so joined eHarmony.
I was matched with my now husband after about 8 weeks and we've been married for 2 yrs now with a 17mth old DD.
Like most things, it will work for some but not for others. If you can afford it I'd say go for it

This worked for me - I met my wife-to-be-very-soon on the Guardian's dating site. I agree that using newspaper-based sites is a good way to find people with a similar outlook - a relationship between a Guardian reader and a Daily Mail reader could never work...
I did try POF for a while but it didn't really work for me - just didn't find people that I was interested in.Let's settle this like gentlemen: armed with heavy sticks
