Evening everyone,
Having a mini dilema and could do with the Elites views.
I've been wanting to go to Tokyo for the past 2 years, I've finally got the money together to book a trip in February/March. Now I've suddenly seemed to have lost interest. I'm basing it down to nerves about it being my first solo trip, but now I'm not sure whether to book the flight or wait.
Thinking I should book it and hope the nerves go away a bit.
Thanks
Rebecca, personally I'd wait & see whether it is nerves or not.
I remember my very 1st holiday abroad with my friend - she informed me just a day before we went that she was going to have to come back after a week (we booked for 2 weeks) as she was selected to help teach at the university hospital she'd just graduated from - apparently quite a coup for her.
I must admit I panicked a bit at being left in Spain on my own BUT I actually enjoyed myself more the 2nd week as other holiday makers took me under their wing. I had a whale of a time the 2nd week. As long as you can talk to people you'll be OK.
When my mum passed I REALLY needed a holiday as I'd given up my self employed business to look after her and I was tired, drained, emotional etc. I asked my best friend to go on a Nile Cruise with me, I'd always wanted to see Egypt - a double room on the cruise cost exactly the same as a single so it seemed daft to go alone - I offered to pay as it wouldn't be any more. Unfortunately her children were still young so she sadly declined. I decided I was going to go anyway. I spoke to my cousin on the phone a few hours after she'd said she couldn't come & he suggested his wife go along instead. I WISH I'd said NO and gone alone - I really didn't know her very well. I KNOW I'd have enjoyed it FAR more had I gone alone! Then again I'll talk to anyone!
A few months after that I went to Australia on my own. Went diving and sightseeing in the Cairns area (2 weeks before they left those Americans out in the Ocean - same boat! OMG!) Then down to Brisbane to see my aunt (who does her own thing & who left me alone 50% of the time) I absolutely adored it - so much so that I stayed another 2 weeks on top of the month I was there for. It's SO laid back and so friendly out there.
I did stop off in Singapore for a few days - got some strange looks on the underground as seemed to be the only foreigner that was going out in the sticks. I'd read about a museum I wanted to see, so just went. Singapore was OK BUT I think if I were going on my own again, I don't think I'd want to go to a big city again. It can be a trifle impersonal - just my tuppence worth!
I've also been to the US twice on my own & thoroughly enjoyed it too. Came back the 2nd time with a new hubby, we'd met online 10 weeks before and decided to meet in person. 10 days later this totally independent spinster was married! I shocked everyone, including myself,:D as I was always known as someone who didn't really do things on an impulse but always thought things through thoroughly. :rotfl::rotfl:
Best thing I've ever done on impulse! We're very happy together & it was just meant to be!
First time alone - hmmm - think about the lingo, can you speak it? A big city can be a lonely place if you aren't with other people. Why not go somewhere a bit more laid back for your 1st jaunt overseas, where you can mingle with people who speak the same language? HOWEVER if you're really stuck on Tokyo - do it!! You'll probably not regret it.0 -

I stay up because I have been subjected to years of sleep depravation
DS2 goes to bed late, he gets up in the night then he wakes me up at silly o'clock. My window of sleep will be soon, after he gets up for his 1am wander0 -
