Hello all,
I had a welcome loan well over 6 years ago and it had already defaulted and left a huge big red mark on my credit file.
Well thats now dropped off but but this morning I got a letter of Cabot saying the debt had been sold them and no want paying....
I am already paying off more debts and feel I should focus on paying more important outstanding bills...
can I be defaulted by cabot if I put there debt on hold for a year or so till Im straight and can afford to pay them off
edit: one think I forgot to add was that 5 years ago I joined a debt plan to pay this account off.. I paid a great deal off this account to a different debt collector and this amount seems to be the full amount again

They cannot add another default. If they do, you can complain and have it removed.
Is it over 6 years since you last paid or acknowledged the account in writing?Free/impartial debt advice: National Debtline | StepChange Debt Charity | Find your local CAB

If so, then may be statute barred, see: Factsheet | Liability for Debts and the Limitation Act (England/Wales)
If not, at least challenge how they got to the amount they are claiming.Free/impartial debt advice: National Debtline | StepChange Debt Charity | Find your local CAB
