House Contents Storage

Has anybody a recommendation and prices for the cost of storing the contents of a 4 bedroom house for approx 6 months in the Manchester / North West area? We are being quoted up to £80 a week!

    That's about average for most of the country. I looked when moving in the midlands and they advertise as being only a few pounds a day but that soon adds up over a few months.

    Have a look in the local paters / notice boards to see if someone has a garage / lock-up that you can rent. Obv you then need to sort your own insurance out doing it this way.

    The average household contents equates to @1500 cubic feet.

    Assuming personal possessions are to be kept with you then you would work on @1250cuft.

    However, most storage companies quote by the square foot. Therefore always ask the height of the unit and work out how much cubic volume you have to play with.

    Then, and only then, do you actually know what the costs are gonna be.

    £80 per week is rather a high quote! In the midlands;

    If the unit height was 10ft, then a 120sqft unit on average is @£200 per month.

    If the unit height is 7ft then you'd need @180sqft, which on average is @£305 per calendar month.

    And the £305 equates to £70 per week.

    Unit height is where its at, and then, if you want to ensure you do not waste space, then pack up WELL. So you can utilise the space efficiently, and use all the height.
    I work in the 'moving industry'. My frame of reference is around 20 years and circa 27,000 domestic moves.

    Try the provincial towns in the north west, I used to rent 50 square foot for a £5 a week.

    Also don't' forget everything has gone up 20% since it's now VAT is applied.
