Currys/LEC non-delivery of freezer

Ordered online from Currys on 7th August and got confirmation of delivery from them for 21st Aug. Spent the day in waiting for it only to discover when calling LEC to find out where it is, that it is out of stock until the end of October. No one bothered to let me know by phone, e-mail or post about this. Have got a refund but very disappointed (wanted freezer in time for birthday party being held at weekend) and want some advice on what else I can do to receive some form of compensation for inconvenience and breach of contract.
any help gratefully received!

Was just about to start a thread about the same.
Order a LEC CF150L chest Freezer on 16th Aug. and chose the delivery date as yesterday (Wed. 21st Aug) and on the order and receipt states “This product will be delivered by the manufacturer Wed 21/08 Any time between 7 a.m. and 7 p.m.” so waited in all day nothing, so called currys and was told that we were supposed to call manufacturer to confirm delivery date ( well was i just to pick a number at random as nothing on order or receipt to say this), so the rep says she would try, well this was 7.30pm, so natually she got no answer from LEC, then she said they are still delivering until 9pm, so could still arrive, but told me she would call me today when she gets in (10am) to check, well no call, so i called at 10.30 and got more help than last night, she checked with LEC and found that as they never confirmed delivery it was not sent out, but it was LEC who should have contacted us, so now they have arranged for this to be delivered Sat. 24th. I chose yesterday as i knew i would be around to take delivery. took today off work in case it was still on the van today, but now looks like i have to take Sat. off work too.

I believe that you are entitled to compensation to cover the time you had to take off work, although actually getting this may be quite a struggle.
This link should give you all the info you need, and it includes a template for a letter you can send to Currys.

Hi Earth,
You are lucky they actually have it in stock to send out to you on that further date! When I spoke to LEC the woman there said it was a common issue they have, so Currys must be aware of it, but refusing to sort it out. I managed to find a message on our landline (which we don't really use, and therefore hadn't discovered) from LEC saying we had to call them about delivering, but this was left on the 7th (the day we ordered) and they had not attempted to contact again since. Both LEC and Currys were in the wrong and although I have cancelled the order and should be refunded in the next couple of days I am so cross that they have had my money for 2 weeks and didn't even have the courtesy to let me know it wasn't going to arrive on the day they had agreed on. Am in the process of writing a letter using the MSE template (and some things I found on the Watchdog website too).0 -

Update
Our chest freezer arrived today, they took the old one away as per on their site, but just left the new one still in its packing, even though their site statesAt Home
We'll take your old appliance away for free when we deliver, plus any packaging0 -
Earthstorm contact the knowhow helpline.
The problem is that the manufacturer's deliver LEC items directly, and have been told to offer packaging removal and take away the old machine, however whenever you introduce a 3rd party to the system, they don't always have the motivation to deliver what someone else promised.
But yes, contact the Knowhow team and they should offer you a discount/partial refund/goodwill0
