Proof of no claims bonus.

I am going to change my motor insurance broker this year as they have not been able to get anywhere near online quotes in the last few years.
I have been with this broker since the 1980's and never made a claim.
What sort of proof will I have to show/send any future insurance company?
How do I get this proof from my insurance broker?

Sometimes they get the proof themselves, but the cheaper companies ask for your old renewal as proof. And they ask you to send it with a copy of your licence, A letter from Parents, Grand Parents and Great great great Grandparents wth a lb of flesh also.

Thanks for the reply.
So some companies are able to check with the details I give them to get a quote to see that I have never made a claim.
A copy of my licence and renewal letter wont be a problem.
I was not sure if the broker I have been using needed to send me some other kind of proof in order for me to be able to use the NCB elsewhere.0 -
Doesn't the renewal letter from your broker have an illustrative next year cost based on the current x years ncd? If so, that's all you need for most insurers, the rest of them you should avoid anyway.0

Claims history and NCD are two separate things. You could have had 20 years since your last claim but have no NCD because you've not held your own insurance.
Insurers typically ask for either a copy of your renewal notice from your current insurer/ broker as it will state the NCD or alternatively a letter/ cert from the same confirming what your NCD currently stands at.0 -

I do not have the renewal letter yet as my insurance does not run out until October, just planning ahead.
Good to know the NCD will be stated on the renewal letter.
Thanks for the replies.0 -

Sometimes it isn't, because some brokers just like to be awkward. If that's the case, you have to contact them and ask for proof of NCD.If it sticks, force it.
If it breaks, well it wasn't working right anyway.0 -

I won't ask the broker for proof of NCD, I would ask my insurance company.
It depends on the broker/ insurer relationship. Some scheme business etc the insurer will have no contact with the insured (may not even know who they are) and the broker deals with all elements of the policy under a delegated authority scheme.0
