Santander - Cash Payments

I normally pay my Santander Credit Card by Cash 1 or 2 days before it is due. The branch have NEVER advised me otherwise and I always have been told by other banks that cash is the quickest way.

This morning I got phone up by the Santander Credit card to say my payment was late and I was really confused. The advisor then told me it take 5 working days for cash paid into a santader bank to reach a santander credit card !!

Is this really correct ?

I'm sure people will pile in telling you that you should sign a DD.

If you phone them then for a "first offence" they might well refund. Did you have any BT deal running? You might have lost that too. In any case you will probably have some interest applied to the account.

Cash usually takes a little while to reach them. Check the back of the statement (I've destroyed mine so can't check).

I pay by faster payments from my Nationwide account. Always arrives same day if I pay during working hours.

i have 6 cards at the moment, all with a DD in place, so yes, here i am to pile in;) DD is the way to move the 'responsibility' to your bank/provider. if there is a good reason not to have a DD, then fair enough.

what i do do is pay my Amex card 'mid month' via americanexpress.co.uk and sometimes pay my Barclaycard by FP from my Barclays C/A.

i've never paid a credit card by cash. is that really convenient for you, smallzoo?

Long story..but being self-employed money can come in last minute so I didnt want bank charges if the direct debit wasnt paid

ok, well, you know to be cautious of this now.
argue your case as strongly as you can, on account of being a 'first offence' and being advised differently by the branch.

a mate of mine was keen to pay his credit card with cash so as not to have it showing as banked in his current account. i'm sure whether he actually did this, although i said he might want to try taking the statement, with giroslip, to the post office. or, and this is what i think he did, opened another bank account and set up a DD to the CC account.
