Moved house, bill for prepay meter???

Options
I recently changed my address, for my old property a prepayment meter was already installed for my electricity. I used this meter with my own account set up and when I moved I left the meter in credit, supplied the company (scottish power) with my correct meter readings and closed the account. I have since received a letter detailing that I owe in excess of £50????? This has never happened before when ive closed a prepay account. Help???

I had the same when I changed to a credit meter from a prepaid meter. I asked them calmly how a prepaid meter could have built up a debt when you prepay for the energy used. They waved the amount!
Paid off the last of my unsecured debts in 2016. Then saved up and bought a property. Current aim is to pay off my mortgage as early as possible. Currently over paying every month. Mortgage due to be paid off in 2036 hoping to get it paid off much earlier. Set up my own bespoke spreadsheet to manage my money.
