Northern Rock vs CO-OP

Options
I had a Norther Rock credit card around 1999 to 2003 and I have tried to find out if there was PPI on this card, if there was "I would like to claim it back please"

I received a letter from NRAM (Norther Rock) saying that the card was "controlled" by the CO-OP and it should be them I spoke to regarding this.

I spoke to the CO-OP, you've guessed it, they said it was Za Northern Rock card!

So I was stuck in the middle with each one saying it was the others card.

What I'm wanting to know is, should I carry on trying? Who is utterly responsible for the card? Do companies get other financial companies to run their cards?

Please please please help me answer some of these questions.

Who sold it to you? Did you buy it from NRAM or the COOP?
WHichever one it was, that's the one who was responsible for it.

I got the card from Norther Rock when we took out our mortgage with them.

Northern Rock had a credit card business but then sold it to the Co-Op in 2003, although NR continued to issue Co-Op cards under the NR brand at least until November 2007. If you were asking about the liability for PPI claims on cards issued before 2003, then the answer would depend on what NR sold to the Co-Op. Did NR simply sell the credit card balances, or was there an actual company called NR Credit card Ltd that was sold?

Clearly if the OP had a NR credit card around 1999 to 2003, it would have been issued by NR. However NR sold the business ten years ago. Whatever the circumstances of the sale, they might well not have any records any more and would therefore be unable to help if someone wanted to "find out if there was PPI" on a particular card. Ditto the Co-Op might not have anything due to the passage of time.

This is exactly the scenario that I'm facing, each is saying its the others, this is compounded by the fact that Norther Rock is now NRAM and their memory seems blurred due to the passage of time!
  • If ppi was paid on any outsanding monthly balance it would be itemised separately on the monthly statement(s).
