This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!

As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or slow internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred. When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning.

Some people who chat here like to try to answer everyone. Don’t feel you have to though, a general “hi everyone, hope everyone’s well” is fine.

  • Good morning everyone :)

Usual dash and dreading work and not feeling great today.

Thanks everyone for nice words about finishing a debt, still a long way to go but it's all in the right direction.

Couple of ebay sales yesterday will help towards endowment shortfall which is our biggest worry at the moment.

Sorry not at my most positive and not much going on so will leave with usual well wishes for all sick people and pets and hugs for those who need or just want them. Keep well and safe and have a super day :)

    Good morning everyone :j

Very grey and overcast here this morning. I am planning to take Matilda my new shopping trolley out for her first trip to town with DD10 so she can finish the reading challenge at the library (DD10 not Matilda lol). I have a shopping list ready to go, I'm really looking forward to it.

I had an eventful day yesterday after all. I felt guilty so I went to see my friend in the end. When I got there I couldn't see any recording equipment so I relaxed and we had a coffee and chat. After an hour or so her son came home and said "Where's the recorder mum", she confessed it was under the sofa I was sat on so that freaked me out a bit. Obviously she has major trust issues but it makes me so uncomfortable to think every word I say will be replayed and analysed. Good job I love her :p.

Eldest DD popped round with the grandchildren which was lovely but I had a phone call in the evening to say my grandson had been sick. I have everything crossed that we won't catch it but who knows. Oh well, the washing machine is on standby. :)

Chicken curry for me and hubby and chicken risotto for the kids for tea. I have to go and get some ingredients from town, I thought I would try the butchers. It looks a bit of an expensive shop but I will go and see if they have any offers on. I also need some fruit and I've been very disappointed with the fruit from Tescos, it's all gone mouldy very quickly so I will go to the greengrocers too and check out what they have.

Well, I'm just waffling today :o Hope everyone manages to have a great day and if not have a hug.
    Cheers m'dears x

Morning all.... Girlies still in bed as per usual.

I have nothing in my diary today so I want to get the house tidy and hoovered in prep for when we go away on Monday. I can never go away with an untidy house... So much so I won 't let the girls start packing till it's done!

I paid all the immediate bills yesterday and sold a few things on eBay so have them to post. I also managed to win some gold taffeta curtains for 99p but as seller not been in touch I wonder if they'll change their mind?

TTFTM - well done on the debts. I have 2 months left on IVA. I still remember having the call in a tesco of all places to say it had been approved. It has a times been hard especially when I lost my job and my new one is half the salary but I have really learnt to budget and think of do I really need something. I have this summer also decluttered and been tough getting rid of things. I still have a few bits to sort but aim to do that as I get rid of some of the weight that I also seem to have hoarded!

Hope all receiving GCSE results did well. I think my only daft answer when I was marking was when someone was asked for a definition and they wrote words to the effect of 'what do you think I am? A dictionary? Go look yourself!'

    Enjoy your day.

    Morning all :)

Main plan for today is grocery shopping. We've been entertaining DH's relatives for the past few days, so have had a few takeaways and an expensive meal out  I'm trying really hard not to think about how we spent an entire month's grocery budget in 3 days....

I've got a pack of bacon in the fridge and am craving potatoes and cabbage. I might do a potato and bacon gratin, or else be lazier and do bubble and squeak.

The house is a bit of a mess as I've not had the time to tidy, I'll not get much internet time today I suspect.

    Have a good day everyone!

    Morning all,

I chickened out of going up to the school today for the GCSE results - I'm realising just how hard it will be in September not going back to school. I didn't have a GCSE class so I've sent general good wishes messages and am trying not to feel 'past it'.

We were out last night at the icecream parlour with friends. Usually we get a takeaway, but if you sit in you have a choice of sundaes. Lush. http://www.joes-icecream.com/St-Helens-Parlour.html

Today I will be finishing the ironing - all the awkward stuff. It'll keep me busy!
I can cook and sew, make flowers grow.

Rained all through the night and it is still persisting down, but the gardens and water butts do need it.
DH was going to paint the fence today, so that is on hold until the next dry day, he has a few bits to do in the house so he is going to make a start on them.
I will probably do some ironing and tidy my bedroom of all the clutter that seems to have accumulated in there, I have an urge to move the furniture about as well.
