NPower doesn't want me to pay them it would seem.......

Moved into here on 16th March. Landlady and I took meter readings for both gas and electricity. She told me a few days later she had called NPower to give them her final meter readings and all was fine they would send final bill to her.

Couple of weeks later once I get my phone in, I call NPower to give them my details, meter readings and asked for weekly payment cards to be sent to me. All fine, everything all changed to my details and told cards would be with me within 10 working days.

Couple weeks later I get a bill in addressed "To the Occupier", so call them to find out why the bill wasn't in my name and to chase up the payment cards as I hadn't received them yet. They checked and said there was a problem with their system when I previously called but that things are now in my name and cards will be with me within 10 working days and to ignore the bill I had received because my weekly payments would include what I owed on that bill.

Couple of weeks later again and I receive a letter from a Debt Collection Agency saying they would send someone out to see me because this bill hadn't been paid and NPower had referred me to them. About a week after then a man comes to my door, didn't say who he was but that he was here on behalf of NPower. I told him that I am in the process of trying to get payments sorted out with NPower and that it was their mess in the first place and away he went.

Now we are 5 months down the line since I moved in here. I owe them for the "Occupier" bill and I owe them for a bill in my own name. Despite numerous phone calls and me being reassured that money I owe will be added to the weekly payments so won't be chased up by them for it, I STILL don't have my payment cards!!

I am at a loss as to what to do. I want to switch from NPower after it being nothing but a shambles since I moved in but I don't know if I will be able to switch if there is money owed to them.

I just want rid of NPower and their incompetence out my life now!

Grrrrrrr!

I don't see the problem. Surely you have been saving the money that you owe so are in a position to pay the bills without using a weekly payment card?

Over 5 months of asking for and waiting to receive payment cards but you don't see the problem?

    Oh dear.

I assume from that response that you haven't put any money to one side to pay this. You have a bill with an account number, so what is stopping you paying it?

You don't need a payment card to pay the bill

  • I agree. I have been trying to pay them for nearly 3 months as they changed systems by phone or online and they have told me each time that they can't take payment from me yet and will let me now when they can.

The thing is, I then switched to EDF because they are only marginally cheaper but it doesn't matter they are all under the same monopoly, I then receive an urgent debt collection letter from some parasites at Past Due saying I have been charged more money for this action and they could kick my door down or cut my energy off!! :rotfl::rotfl: I'm afraid they can't cut off a supply to a place of dwelling if they do not supply it nor can they force their way in if I am not even affiliated with them. And better yet, due to my attempts and email proof dated 8 days ago, (their response time is 10-12 days since calling them took nearly 20 minutes to get through) they can get £5 a month from me for their incompetence and liability and they can pay the debt collection charges.

As the person above, they WONT LET ME PAY THEM! They have me on the system twice as The Occupier and another in my own name, but because they keep adding the price of the bills onto what will be my weekly payments they keep telling me to wait on the payment cards coming through.

So !!!!!! your assumption was wrong. An apology from you for trying to be a smart !!! and make some random point that is nothing to do with the issue I raised will be accepted any time you like ;)

NPower really don't like taking payments off customers.

For the record I got the same 'pay them anyway' response - in my case I went 12 months without paying them because they refused point-blank to set-up a payment unless I phoned them (I can't use a phone, and they refused to talk to anyone phoning on my behalf - even CAB after I sent NPower written consent to talk to them). I COULD have paid them, but without a payment plan added on the system it's pointless as collection action will continue and you'd be cut-off anyway

At least you can phone them elkay115, which gives you an advantage over me in dealing with them, it just seems to be a matter of continuing to bother them until they get the job done. I have a friend who works for them (who is very competent) who says due to a system problem and lack of staffing they are FAR behind in dealing with their workload, that plus incompetent staff means lots of people are having these problems.

I am having the same problems with N Power. I just put money away every month and see what happens. They have phoned me three times since April to set up a direct debit which I have done and then I get another email to say my bank won't accept the DD?
