Thanks Alex you have given me alittle hope although you are the very first person that i know who have not been for a medical but thats great news for yourself.

The CAB have filled the forms in for me do you know if they got in touch with your doctor ? and do you have any councelling of any kind did they get in touch with them ?

Sorry meaning to ask Alex was this your first IB50 ?
  • My husband filled in his 2nd IB50 last year(around two years after the first). He was not asked to go for a medical . After a few months,he got a letter that said that 'people with certain disabilities or severe ilnesses are treated as incapable of work and do not have to satisfy the test. As you have one of these disabilities or ilnesses, you are treated as incapable of work'. At the end it says they may have to look at his claim again if his incapacity changes, when he may be asked to fill in a questionnaire and go for a medical.

    He has depressiion and IBS.

It sounds like your husband is in an exempt group with what they have written would you agree.

I am alittle confused as to who they would say is exempt for mental health i have never been in hospital or anything like that but i would say my depression/anxiety is severe.

I do not want to be noisy but has your husband been admitted to hospital.
  • No, he has never been in hospital for his depression, (he did see a psychiatrist as an outpatient in the early days) but has suffered with it since 1990 when he had a breakdown. He went back to work, in 1992, but had several bouts of long-tern sickness due to depression, went half-time in 2002 in an effort to be able to continue working but eventually took early retirement due to his health in 2004.

    Hope this helps.

    Hi

I don't know if they got in touch with my doctor. But i am under a CPN and Psychiatrist. They may have got in touch with them. I have had the old "Black Dog" on and off for the last 8 yrs and have been in hospital and had ECT so I have a history. Whether this helped my claim .

Its good you had CAB to help you.Fingers crossed it will be ok.
  • Was due to have a medical this week for the same reasons.
When I first got the notification the letter itself caused me so much stress that the doctor wrote to them and asked for a home visit for me.
Don't know what other enquiries they made ie psychiatrist etc but then got a letter on the day of my appointment this week to say I didn't need to go for a medical after all.
All that added stress etc for nothing!

I claim incapacity benefit and the first time i made a claim i didn't get called for a medical because they write to your doctor and mine gave a more than adequate report to them. i have been called for a couple since but it's been years since my first claim.
