Anyone live in Chudleigh, Devon?

OH and I are looking at buying a family home at the end of next year and Chudleigh looks promising - does anyone live here/know the town? Better areas / those to avoid etc?

Chudleigh doesn't ring any alarm bells with me. It's close to the coast, but without the tourist influx and premium on prices.
I don't live near there, but I reside in the county and travel down there sometimes. I'd say that the only thing to watch for might be road noise from the A38 on that side of the town.
Places to avoid? Possibly Newton Abbot, but it depends whether you are seeking work in the locality. Some of the more picturesque locations aren't that hot for employment.
Totnes will cost you. It is the place for arty/crafty/new age etc people, but probably very pleasant as a location to live and bring up a family. Chudleigh is definitely more workaday, but there's now't wrong with that!
Edit: It would help repliers if you said more about yourselves and why you've chosen Chudleigh. I live near Chulmleigh, which is highly rated for family living, but I wouldn't recommend it to everyone. Horses for courses.0 -
I'm in Devon too, where are you coming from? Do you need easy access to a town with lots of shops and facilities? Chudleigh is a lovely village but there isn't much there, you'll need transport to get to major towns and cities.Mortgage Free Wannabe Light Bulb Moment (Early 2012, started May 2012)

Thank you for the replies - we are already Devonians, currently renting in Exeter but we can't afford what we want in the city. Chudleigh seemed like a good option because its between Exeter where OH works and my job, which is further down the A38. I suppose we want somewhere with a villagey feel, but don't want to move too far away and face lengthy commutes! Any other suggestions welcome0

Do you have kids? If so you will want to consider where the best schools are, too.0

My parents are near Kingbridge and for sure I could not live that far off the A38 - it takes ages to reach anywhere even when the roads aren't full of caravansI think....0
