Renting houseboat, need contents insurance

Options
Hi

We are moving onto a houseboat in the coming week and I am struggling to get contents insurance.

As we are renting and not buying the boat (which is on a fixed residential mooring) marine insurers are unwilling to offer up just contents insurance.

'Regular' providers have given me an instant no.

I've contacted the British Insurance Brokers Association, and unfortunately turned up a blank there too!

I'm wondering if anyone else is in a similar situation and how you've managed to work around it!

Thanks in advance

Becca

Might be worth asking your soon-to-be 'neighbours' who they use. Maybe one or two rent theirs rather than own.

You need a specialist Insurer / broker - try Noble Marine or Cheers?

How about looking in specialist magazines - Canal Boat or Waterways world maybe. There are probably ads there from insurance brokers or companies who specialise in boat insurance.
