Tax credit nightmare...help please! H

Hi,
I will give you a little bit of background info, I am a single mum of a 3 year old. I claim tax credits and my child is in nursery. I work 30 hours a week....
After me renewing and doing everything by the book with the tax credits, I received a very nasty and shocking letter on my doorstep last Thursday stating I owe £5k!!!!!! And that my son has never been in nursery all of his life! Now at the point I was very dis stressed and upset as he does go to nursery and I and the nursery provide info every year to prove this! Anyway I rang Friday morning and was told it was a mistake, and they would put the child care costs back on the claim and it will be all sorted! I am due a payment next Wednesday and I am so scared that it won't be sorted till then! Shall I give them a call on Friday as it would be a week? I am wanting to write a letter of complaint as sending letters out saying you owe that much is just unacceptable?
Where do you think I all stand? Oh and for the record I don't owe a single penny:)
Thank you for reading:) xx

Well if you received a letter saying you owe £5k... Then to be found out it was a mistake wouldn't you want to complain?
I'm a single mum of one, didn't think it was fair for them to just send a letter like that out in the post if it wasn't correct?!?!0 -

Not really, I'd just be happy I didn't owe 5k.
Although not sure what you being a single parent of one has to do with it..but I'm sure if you write a letter of outrage they might apologise...won't get you any compo mind :rotfl:Its all mind over matter. I don't mind and you don't matter:rotfl:0 -

Your marital status (or lack of) is neither here nor there. I am also quite sure that they didn't send the letter knowing it was incorrect. It was a mistake. They happen. It's been sorted with one phone call. Move on.0 -
