Weird letter from Sainsbury's re Platinum Card app

My wife applied for a Sainsbury's Platinum Card (one of Martin's top picks for purchases at the moment - 10 months @ 0%pa) and has just a received a slightly weird letter that states:

"Thank you for your recent credit card application. The card is no longer available, but after assessing the information you sent us we can offer you the Sainsbury's Bank Platinum Card with a rate of typical 15.9% APR variable"

Bearing in mind the 'Platinum Card' is what she applied for, we initially assumed this meant that the 0% didn't apply. However, although the letter mentions nothing about 0%, the Credit Card Agreement and Summary Box enclosed both mention the 10 months 0% promo.

Anybody else had this? I haven't questioned it with Sainsbury's and I probably won't, as I'm assuming they'll be bound by the terms of the agreement anyway.

Tartmaster Simon.

  • Hm, that is a bit odd. The t&cs on that type of card recently changed (albeit very slightly), so I would assume it was the old t&cs you agreed to before, and this is the new t&cs you've received.
