Good value coffee?

I like Sainsbury's own brand decaff - I don't drink decaff very much but always have this at my mum & dad's.

I think I'm changing the way I drink coffee though - used to make loads of cups a day but now think it's better to have just a few of something nice and make the jar last longer. That way can have better quality.:j

Good idea - I was given a stove top espresso pot as a prezzie but I haven't used it yet - I should give it a go.

I buy the sainsburys basic instant coffee all the time. They haven't stopped it - is it maybe not available temporarily at your store? If you like it and it's the best price, you could always ring them and ask.

Sainsbury's basics instant coffee isn't bad, just had a cup with a prize winning Good Housekeeping cheapo mince pie from Iceland. Great! But to get the best cheapo coffee Lidl 'French' and 'Italian' blends are the ground filter cone coffee's to get - as good as the most expensive stuff from Whittard's of Chelsea. (Filter cones are cheaper and better and easier than French presses IMHO.)

I love the Aldi Colombian instant coffee. It is just as good as the premium colombian coffee. It's very good value imo

Another fan of Aldi's Rich Roast (instant). DH has a cafetiere of their ground coffee (the one in the dark red bag) every morning. You can't bet their prices.

I quite like Al-Cafe which is Aldi's gold blend equivalent. I have not liked anything but Gold blend for years. I finally stopped buying it.

I think it costs about £2.69.

I'm having one mug of Lidl Bellarom Rich Roast per day, and one mug of Nescafe Gold Blend, at the moment. The former has more guts to it, although the latter is has appealing smoothness. If forced to choose, ignoring price, I would go with the Lidl, and it's a quarter of the price! I start the day with filter, and am currently, happily, drinking Lidl's Bellarom Gold. But the Lidl speciality blends are well worth delving into, with the prize winning Guatemalan a real standout.

Personally, I've never been that taken with Lidl coffee, ground or instant.

Aldi however can be quite decent for instant and their Columbian ground at £1.89 a pack is an absolute bargain for coffee of that quality. Aldi also do a Brazilian on special fairly regularly that is excellent.

As for Nescafe - I detest the stuff. Moving to Vietnamese beans has only made a bad coffee even worse IMO.

For online beans or ground coffee, Wogan Coffee in Bristol has always been good and competitively priced supplier for my favourite beans and their "Riposo" blend is a fine all-day coffee. Pleasant taste and not overly strong. - Also significantly cheaper than my local roaster but I do only order from Wogan when they are out as I try to support the local connection.

I used to only buy Taylor's of Harrogate ground coffee - but find that Aldi is perfectly nice. I either buy the single origin ethiopian or columbian but they have introduced a 'lazy days' blend which is very nice and similar to Taylor's "Lazy Sunday".

I rarely drink instant - if i do, my preferred brand is Carte Noir. i wouldn't buy Nescafe - or any other Nestle product - on principle but that's another story...
