i have films on my pc that are AVI format, is this DIVX?
i want to play them on the TV without plugging laptop in, so my kiddie can watch when he wants.
now i do not really want to be converting files all the time, i have tried this and playback does not work still and quality on pc is not as good.
So question is i guess i need one of these.

Anyone got one? from what i read i can put data file on a CDRW or 6ish films on a DVD and it will play it. Does that seem right?
if so gonna get 2 as you get a £10 discount if over £30 spent.
any info on divx etc, would be great

DivX is a method of video compression, and is one of many. They are saved as AVI files. There are lots of other methods of compression, and many of them are saved as .avi files - however, you may need extra software (call codecs) to play them.
I have a 2 year old DVD player that plays AVI files - it can manage DivX and Xvid compression - two of the most common kinds.
Personally, i'd find one with USB in, or that would play from memory cards. That way you could just buy a memory card/usb stick and copy the files across. It would save constant burning of CDs. I bought a 4gb USB stick recently for £17.99.. you could put 5 or 6 films on that and it would be very convenient.
I believe Phillips do one now that has HDMI out, DivX and USB.

Or, something cheaper:

I find that some advertise that they can play Xvid, but cannot play all types.
Anyway, Asda has a DivX player with a HDMI output for £29.
If you want to be sure of the codec needed for the playing of the video; http://mediainfo.sourceforge.net/en0 -

so this would also be a better option.
it would just read the avi data file from the memory card and play it?Google gives you answers use it.........0 -

Have a look if your local Lidl still have one. It's PAC not PAC Code, it's MAC not MAC Code, it's PIN not PIN Number, it's ATM not ATM Machine, it's LCD not LCD Display, it's DVD not DVD disc... It's no one not noone, It's a lot not alot, It's got not gotten... Panini is the plural of panino - there is no S!!(OK my English isn't great, the sciences, maths & IT are my strong points!)0
