Dogs paw pad is cut!? Vets!?

Hi all,

My dog, Bella has cut her paw pad. It is a small cut but the pinkish skin is showing. Due to her walking through fields etc. should I take her to the vets or will this heal on its on?

She doesnt seem to be in any discomfort or anything!

Any advice would be great!

If she isn't limping or bothering it I would leave her. It might be a little sore for her for a day or two but pads heal quite quickly.
  • Clean it and just keep an eye on it. Shouldnt need to go to the vets unless it is causing an issue or is clearly infected etc.

Make sure there is no grit, grass seeds and the like in the wound
    Comping Since Sept2013
Wins so far - Chips, Billy the lion.
:j Thanks to all Comping OPs :j

Ouch that must be painful, if it was me I would give it a wash, just stick her in the bath with some salt water and then leave her, if she started limping I would take her to the vets.

Second this :) Don't let her lick at it though!
  • She seems to be fine. No limping or discomfort. Will make sure I clean it and keep an eye on it.

The Vet has told me before to put savlon on her cuts (She was speyed not long back and had developed a little scab) and worked fine. Do you think it would be useful?

The liquid spray might be better than the cream because of where it is, the cream might make her foot slippery and make a mess on the floor, it would also cause things to stick to it.
  • Thanks GT.

Will get my partner to get some and hopefully it wil heal over the next few days.

My vet told me they didn't usually stitch a dog's pads. Just a bit of a soak in salt water and let her see to it herself.

I would've thought if she's licking at it healing would be accelerated?

Keep a can of Betadine or Poviodine for events such as this.
