Issue with Very.co.uk

I bought a table and chair set with very.co.uk late last year (November ish) which has had very little use.
One of the chairs broke so we called them expecting a replacement, unfortunately they send an "independent" person out with a camera to verify if it was a manufacturing fault or not.
The bloke turned up and was very nice to be honest but didnt even take the chair apart, he only tool a few pictures on a digital camer and left.
Now we have a bill for £45 and a broken chair, is there anything i can do to dispute this as I know the chair has not been misused (unless you consider sitting on it misuse), I do know a qualified carpenter that i am happy to take it to to get a second opinion and am happy to pursue this company as the item is less than 12 months old.
Has anyone else had issues with this company? there is no way i can afford to replace a dining room and table less than 12 months after i have just bought one from what i thought was a reputable company.
Any suggestions? I have seen the link to the rep and will be emailing that address next with a link to this forum to see if i can dispute the independent report where the damaged item was not even taken apart for checking.
regards
Paul

To take it any further you would need to demonstrate it is n inherent fault, an independent report will show this. I would not think that a friend who is a carpenter would be classed as independent.
Could you maybe ask if they would be able replace the single chair (the cost may be lower for you)?0 -
I only really want the faulty chair replaced to be honest, my wife is happy with the unit as a whole (or she would not have purchased it), i am not after a refund or a whole replacement, but i do not think that is is unfair to have one item that is damaged that is less than a year old replaced.
And I don't care who has to do another independent inspection but i would expect an expert to at least do more than take some photos of it.
Very have had an opportunity to send an expert (which i have paid dearly for) so i only want someone that can properly inspect the damage to the item that has some carpentry skill, not just someone that can push some buttons on a camera and tell me they will send it back to base for an evaluation.0
