Replacement rear wiper arm for my 2001 yaris
Options
Hello, just looking for a bit of advice please.
I need a replacement rear wiper arm for my 2001 yaris. I'm a complete tool when it comes to my car, i know how to drive it but that's as far as it goes!
I've found like a million websites that i can get one from, obviously it won't be an official toyota part so will a compatible one do just as good a job? Or should i go to a local car parts dealer? Also, people at work keep telling me to "get down to the scrap yard". I've never been to one in my life but i very much doubt they have all the spares of every car ever made all lined up neatly waiting for people like me to come along so will this involve trailing round them all until i find what i'm looking for? Another thing, if it proves too difficult for me to fit (which is highly likely given my lack of experience and knowledge of anything car related) will the garage fit it if i take it to them?
Thanks for your time

My first choice would be to see if there we're any genuine one's on Ebay, perhaps someone is breaking a Yaris and if you contact them, they'll setup a buy it now for the part you want.
Edit - Saying that, i've checked Ebay and for £10 you could try a non OEM part and if it doesn't work, just bin it.“I may not agree with you, but I will defend to the death your right to make an a** of yourself.”

If a yaris is anything like my nissan, unless someone has come and vandalised your car, what you need is a replacement wiper blade because the rubber is worn out. The blade is a separate part, and the arm stays on the car.
Most car spares places will sell you one, and if you go to the right one, they will fit it for you FOC. Halfords do a supply and fit service, but it isn't free.
If you really need the whole arm, then they have to be fitted with a spanner/socket, and can be tricky to get off, but any mechanic can do it, most likely one of the people at work who told you to go to the scrapyard will do it at lunchtime if you ask them, wont take 5 minutes.
Don't bother with the scrapyard, the blades are usually worn out anyway.I want to go back to The Olden Days, when every single thing that I can think of was better.....
(except air quality and Medical Science)

Thanks for the replies. Yes it's deffo the arm, the base of it split so the whole thing was just hanging down completely useless. Actually i've seen two other old yaris's (vvti's) whilst out and about with missing rear wipers and my landlords wife just bought one with a missing wiper too. A common issue maybe? Gonna go with a compatible part and have a go at fitting it myself.0

Ebay the place to go, you will need to know/find out where car was built as 2 different types, instructions on ebay for this.lbm 11/06/12 dept total 11499.470

A common issue maybe?.
Probably a weak design, winter frost and failure to manually unstick the wiper before using it, would easily do the damage you describe. Other cars might tear the blade off or (on the front) break the wiper linkage.“I may not agree with you, but I will defend to the death your right to make an a** of yourself.”

Give Silverlake a call and see if they have any. They are what used to be known as a 'scrap yard' but are now an 'automotive recycling facility'
