Are you talking about income tax or the tax you need to pay on savings?

For tax on the interest then yes, you would be considered to have earned half the interest and so would need to declare it and pay taxes on it as appropriate
  • Yes,I am referring to tax on savings also would this affect my council tax ?
  • How could it possibly impact your council tax or are you talking about council tax benefit?
  • Sorry it is my council tax benefit I am referring to,I am thinking of income tax but as I am retired and not in employment.

You would also be considered to own half the capital in the account - would this impact on any means tested benefits?
  • I am not on benefit,as a single occupant in a flat the council has a band which I pay accordingly

If you are talking about the single person discount, that is not a council tax benefit.
