HSBC ppi claim?

Options
Was wondering if anyone can help? Submitted a ppi claim to hsbc from a loan taken out in 1998, paid off in 2001 all I had was the loan account number. Called hsbc today to check progress of the claim an d was told that they have been unable to find any original documents. However when I received the initial letter from them confirming receipt of the complaint it had the ppi insurance number on it.
So my question is will they refuse my claim because they have no original documents or will they uphold it as obviously they have the information as they had the ppi policy number?
Thanks

They could do either or offer you a goodwill payment..

Having the insurance number doesn't mean that you paid the entire amount over the specified period fo time. You might have paid it off ealry, consolidated it or cancelled the PPI at the beginning of the loan.

Thanks for your response the loan was paid off after 4 years, was paid off with some money from a homeowner loan. The ppi wasn't used or cancelled.
