Another wireless router question

last week i went into pcworld & explained to a salesman that i wanted to move my computer upstairs.

I am on broadband/tv/phone with ntl

he advised me that & sold me a d-link wireless g kit model dwl-922.

Today i have installed it the way the cd-rom has shown me. The trouble is, pardon me for being a techno dunce but the wireless router is connected to the cpu & the modem box.

How am i supposed to move my computer upstairs, when it is connected this way.

you will need a wireless usb adapter to connect the comp to the router wirelessly

Once you have correctly configured the wireless router i.e. changed the password, entered your 63 character random WPA encryption key from here and enabled the wireless, disconnect the Ethernet cable and install the USB adaptor.

Read the instructions!

Keep a copy of your encryption key that you entered into the router, in a file, as you will need it to paste into the computer when connecting via wireless.

the router should only be connected to the modem and not the CPU. u should connect your computer via an adapter, a devide that you stick into one of your computer's usb ports. try the one recommended by albertross.

Thanks for the help, but unfortunately the instructions & cd-rom for this router are basically crap. I spent all morning trying to get an internet connection, it was'nt to i went through someone elses problems post that i realised i was supposed to disconnect the usb cable. Did not mention that at all. As for my original post no where does it say disconnect the cable to the cpu. I was not 100% sure i assumed that was the case but being a techno dunce your never sure are you.

The full user manual is available from here and I have always found D-link manuals to be very comprehensive with a useful Troubleshooting section.
