Credit History

Hi

Since January 2013 my husband & I have been working really hard to sort out our credit files and we have now made arrangements with everyone and also 2 out of 3 CCJs have been removed so we are heading in the right direction.

I keep seeing that the score on the experian website is a red herring?!?!?! So what is the point of it then? We now have about £3k in total debt which is outstanding but we have repayment plans in place for it all and yet our credit score hasn't changed for the past 3-4 months! What are we doing wrong?

How can I get this improved? And if the score is such a red herrring what is the point of it?

Also I was expecting there to be a large outstanding balance on there for car finance going back to 2006/2007 but it does not feature and we did pay for the finance for almost a year and then gave the car back when my husbands old business went under! Why does it not feature? Is this something that although is not on my experian report still going to cause me credit issues?

I am desperately trying to get my credit file our of the 'poor' category as my husband & I are currently going through the adoption process. Any help I would really appreciated.

Thanks
Bimbo

There are 3 credit reference agencies, not all lenders use the same one so it is possible that your car finance is appearing on one of the others (Equifax or Call Credit) but not Experian. You need to check all 3.

The actual score doesn't mean a great deal as nobody can see it only you, but it does give an indication of your creditworthiness I guess.

Arrangements to pay won't do your file any favours and I doubt it will improve much until these are finished/paid off.

I have checked Equifax and it didn't feature on there either.

Never heard of call credit - I will check that.

Why won't repayment do my credit file any favours? We had to pay them and we cannot afford to pay them in full!

I understand that they won't improve my file until they are paid in full and settled but what about the CCJ's coming off that has had no impact!!!!

I honestly had credit files, I feel like you cannot do right for doing wrong :(

CCJs stay on your credit file for 6 years, paid or not. A paid CCJ is better than an unpaid one, but even paid CCJs are likely to result in instant nos from lenders.

Ignore the credit score and just concentrate on the actual information in your credit files.
