I just can't see how "TIME TO REVIEW YOUR SAVINGS JAR" is a reasonable way of saying "WE ARE CLOSING DOWN - THE EU MADE US BECAUSE OF PAST MISTAKES"
It seems this wretched letter was the first time many customers were told. It's disingenuous at best. In reality it's devious. The whole banking business is based on trust and to behave like this is the measure of the man who signed the letter.
Just this morning I was thinking how "NUDGE" theory didn't seem to have large scale applications. Well I was wrong. This is a version of NUDGE. But how crassly stupid can you get. To pretend on the phone that all is normal, but you are not taking new business - hurry along, nothing to see - is hardly "My word is my bond" stuff.
The letter is sent from John McGann who is not taking calls on the matter - another towering genius of the finance industry. His staff can't decide if it's from him or not. Well, it's got his name on. And it's unlikely you have to write to your customers that often saying the bank is closing, so you probably wouldn't give the task to the new temp.
There's a word for this kind of man and company and I'm sure he'll be hearing it a lot.0
