I live in zone 5, have a 30 minute commute to work at Cannon Street & pay 1,150 for a 4 bedroom maisonette above a retail unit with roof terrace.
Depending on how far you are willing to commute you can get a 1 bed in my area close to shops, transport, nightlife for around 800pcm, closer to London the higher the rate.
I would suggest spending a weekend or two in London travelling to different areas & feeling them out for travel, housing etc. Browse estate agent windows as well as online estate agents & get a copy of the tube map.
I personally, as a londoner born, would never live on a tube line, I much prefer south of the river & using buses & trains but that's me, others don't seem to mind it.I don't respond to stupid so that's why I am ignoring you.

I'd consider Wanstead or South Woodford. Straight through on the Central Line. Easily walkable to Mayfair from say Bond Street.
Both have lots of bars and restaurants and large villagey feels. Lots of open space nearby (and Epping Forest). Good sized cinema at South Woodford too. Various shops.
Remember you can have a virtual walk in areas on google maps.
Would also give a MASSIVE thumbs up for Blackheath. Beautiful happy place, very upmarket. Not sure I'd opt to travel to Mayfair though, although I did for a number of years. Think I got a tube from Charing Cross. Was many moons ago!

Clapham Junction, Kingston upon Thames, Richmond, Wimbledon
Typical Richmond 1 bed - 1500pcm
Wimbledon - 1200pcm (an average that includes the fringes like southfields and wimbledon park that most people would think is not real wimbledon)
Clapham Junction - 1500pcm
Kingston - 1000pcm but the train is SLOW. You'd be better off in surbiton.
These are all nice areas (the junction being the least nice) but they aren't cheap. The description of Earlsfield as leafy and villagey doesn't match my experience of the area.
It is reasonably leafy compared to central london, but it's definitely suburban rather than villagey. But I guess compared to central London it looks positively bucolic!
PS I've been to clifton many times. There isn't really an equivalent in London in the centre, it's too built up.
The closest you will get is the urban villages in London - Wimbledon Village, Dulwich Village, Clapham Common - Old Town and Abbeville Village, Highgate etc. These aren't cheap places as many aspire to these sorts of places.0 -
Zone 4 - Morden is end of Northern Line. My girlfriend works in Bank and we rent a 2 bed place for £1100. She gets to work in 35 minutes. Always gets a seat on the tube.
Morden not the greatest place in the world to live but the tube line is a god send for her work and our weekend antics in London.0 -

I'm not so sure that's correct pricing, especially for Kingston where a 3 bed house sets you back £1,600 and flats are generally £600-800. Clapham isn't that bad in general and you're quite a bit off in regards to the Kingston train, it's roughly the same time as the Surbiton trains although given the choice, I'd catch a train from Surbiton purely because it's closer to where I live within Kingston than Kingston station is.
Surbiton does have more frequent trains and some of them are quicker, but its not a massive difference.
The one coming from guildford/Walton is quicker due to less stops. But we're only talking 5-10mins difference0 -
I dont want to sound rude, but you are currently living in a great part of Bristol with a relatively short commute to a pretty well paid job.
After housing, commuting and general living costs a salary of £29k is pretty much peanuts for central london - realistically you are going to have to rent in an area such as Acton that in no way compares to Clifton - and you will have the time and expense to communte to Mayfair - just to see how the other half live! Then down the line if you have kids, you will have all the issues about schools - Clifton vs Sub Prime area of London
Personally I would not do it.0 -
There are far more opportunities in London to get other jobs with more salary etc.
Personally I would do it0
