White stains on black clothes after washing?

Options
Before anyone suggests anything rude...it's not!

Basically, I get white stains on a particular pair of trousers, and hubby on a particular black shirt after they've been washed. All other dark and black items seem unaffected.

We only use liquid, don't use fabric softner either, so have no idea what it is or how to get rid of it. Happened with our last washing machine too.

Whatever it is, its water soluble as it can be wiped off with a damp cloth, but its such a pain, and I wondered if anyone else had this and what it could be? Even my other black trousers seem unaffected, ot's a really annoying puzzle!!

Hmm, also, the staining always seems to be on the inside of the clothes - so if washed inside out, they're on the outside when turned back again, and vice versa...
