How do you get a blue badge?

My friend's little boy has just had a brain operation which has not produced the required result - and also suffers from absence seizures. He cannot walk far and when the pain hits - he needs to go home immediately.

I feel my friend needs a blue badge - she can then take him places in the knowledge she can get out to the car very quickly.

She has been told he "will" qualify for DLA - but the forms are enormous and the care that he requires does not give her the hours and hours they will take to fill in - and she needs to sleep when he does!

My gran has a blue badge without disability payments (but she can't remember how she got it!). Any ideas how to apply without DLA?

Many thanks:confused:

My father got one before he applied for DLA. We got the form from the local council, you have to explain why you feel you need a blue badge. They will write to your GP for confirmation. The whole process took 2 weeks from applying to receiving a badge.

Your friend needs to call her local council and ask for the department that deals with the blue badges.

I may be wrong but I think children don't qualify until they are 5 years old....that used to be the case but may have changed now. Good luck!

I think it tells you most of the info - I think my Mum went to the doctors as he had to sign the form for her?
Good luck with you application and hope the little fellow improves soon.

If you brother gets Disability Living Allowance mobility at higher rate he should get one from the local council no problems. Otherwise he could still get one but might need more info from docs, it does vary from council to council as to how easily they issue them. The blue badge would be issued for your brother and then can be used in a car driven by any member of his family or friend as long as it's for journeys with him in the car.

The link Sagaris has lots of useful info.
