EXTREME FRUGALITY WEEK
Only stubbed my toe a couple of times walking around in the dark :rotfl:
Weekly washing total: 2 (Mon & Tues)

Gas usage: 3 units - £3.72
electricity: 18 units - £2.16
Shower: turned off whilst washing and didn't use any conditioner, towel dried hair (may be frugal but now I look like Crystal Tips - you need to be old to remember this )
Driving: DH had to take DSS2 to dentist
Food: made lasagne from batch cooked mince and used up salad. Had to buy cheese and some soup for DS.
Quite pleased with my frugality for day 1.

On the contrary - there's a great chapter on why you shouldn't give your adult kids money :rotfl:

Thanks Gallygirl and Hurdler - we're never too old to save but lets but lets just say I don't think I'll be getting rich off the back of it :rotfl:
DSS1 got a new job yesterday which means his income will be going up by about £600 a month - he wasn't on a lot before but now won't be doing too badly. I desperately want to encourage him to put half of it away but somehow I don't think it will happen. Instead I will give him the book to read

Extreme Frugality is going well. Those are some serious dishwasher saves you're racking up!
a penny picker upper. MFW approx 78% to go | FIRE 3 years worth (30% savings rate: now aiming for 40%!) | Normality is a paved road; it's comfortable to walk, but no flowers grow on it | Whatever you're meant to do, do it now. The conditions are always impossible | The only thing you absolutely have to know, is the location of the library0 -
I wait until I have used pretty much every dish/piece of cutlery in the house before turning mine on. I have even been known to have to salvage cutlery from the dishwasher to be able to have a soup at lunch.

Me too Pearla*merle me too
When my mum bought her last house over 20 years ago now it came with a brand new dishwasher - after 20 years it still hasn't been turned on and that is despite many years of 8 people living in the house and 16 for Sunday lunch

if it was within my control I would do exactly the same - I tend to wash up as i go along. Since going minimalist it is a little more tricky as I have a set of cutlery and plates for 8 which doesn't take much to become dirty in this household!
