Diary of a home owner wannabe (my 6 year journey)

  • Busy day yesterday - housework all day. Popped to Mr T for bits for tea and took DS and friend to their first badminton lesson.

Daily food spend budget £9.43. Up to Mr T again this morning as we'd run out of milk and picked up some bits for tea tonight- mellow meatballs - Nigella recipe - red thai curry and coconut milk - it a really nice recipe and makes a change from meatballs with tomato sauce :D

I finally submitted my end of year accounts to the accountant - :j though he has already come back with a load of queries :( - not to think about over the weekend.

Feeling a bit under the weather - have a stinking cold and a bit achy so seeing as Ive done most of the house work - (just need to put a wash on - waiting for DS to get out of bed first so I can get his clothes) I'm going to take it easy this weekend and chillax :)

Not much happening on the MS front, though I have made £21 on cashback and interest this month with my Santander account which came through yesterday. Have checked my budget accounts and hopefully if there are no unexpected spends I should come in at £1000 savings this month. £350 under target but that's due to the change of my end of month date so not a problem. Paid the remains of the holiday deposit today

    Happy weekend :D

  • Feeling ropey again today so have resorted to staying in bed which is unheard of for me.

Had to pay the remains of the holiday deposit yesterday so that makes 3 weeks in a row of humungous weekly spends

Just need some veg to go with the roast beef today which DH will have to get along with some more milk - bought 6 pints yesterday and its nearly gone already - think the kids are on a hot chocolate binge!

Am going to have an MS diary binge today - should retire to bed more often :rotfl:

  • Feeling much better today - spent time in bed and then on the sofa when I couldn't bear to be in bed any longer. DH made dinner the kids cleaned up (hmmm - this ill thing has it's benefits). The kids weren't happy about the amount of washing up they had to do after DH used every pot and pan in the house to make the dinner and consumed a bottle of wine in the process

I spent most of my time catching up on some diaries and then got sidetracked onto a few blogging sites - ZenHabits and Being Minimalist. It certainly got me thinking about how I run my own life and that of my families. Personally I consider myself to be fairly minimalist and I'm not really into 'stuff'. I regularly sort through my clothes and wear all of what I have on a regular basis. I don't go in for bags, shoes (too much) or makeup so my own personal stuff is fairly easy to deal with. It's everyone else's that seem to cause the clutter in this house  - I spend so much of my time putting everyone else's things back in the right place. DS is not too bad and I think will follow me (either that or as he spends most of his time on his PC he doesn't use anything else!). DD DSS2 and DH are the main culprits (although I am slowly training DH).

I really would like to get on track to simplifying my life so stuff doesn't get in my way - whether it be physical stuff or digital stuff. I have decided to unsubscribe to all the junk emails I get and see if I can get my on-line life in order - this includes spending less time on line (excluding MSE of course :D). I would also like to get some systems in place that makes life run even smoother. My husband tells me I am extremely methodical and organised which compared to him I am but I am determined to streamline this even more to free me up to do the things that I want to do. There will always be 'stuff' as it is part of life but how wonderful it would be to wake up just one day a week with no 'stuff to do' :D

Not much to report today - found a penny and picked it up :rotfl:
Daily food budget is at £9.69 for the next 10 days - no more meals left in the freezer after tomorrow so things could be tight for the last 9 days.

Read through a bit more of the Zen Habits blog which I am really enjoying. I'm going to sort though the kitchen this week to get rid of anything that we don't really need and make sure everything is organised. I have started setting the breakfast table after dinner and emptying the dishwasher before bed rather than doing it in the morning :). My in box is empty and I am slowly unsubscribing to emails as they come in - already feeling a little calmer.

Still on target to hit £1000 savings this month (just).

Your meal plan is delicious, I really should remember that everyone is a gourmand on here before stopping in for a snoop!

I hope you won't judge me, but there is 3p sitting in our work kitchen, it has been there for 6 months now and oh how it tempts me :o
  • Hiya
Found your diary the other and just caught up to your recent posts :p
You inspired me to start my own diary. I have been thinking for a few months now about saving up enough money to buy a house in the future, I thought it wasn't possible to do it but you proved me wrong:j
Hope you have a smooth running day x
