Expired credit note

I have a credit note from a big DIY firm which was valid for a year. I though it was expiring in August. Unfortunately, it expired a few weeks ago in late July. It was for a sum of over £150. Have I really lost my right to claim it? I notice that my other credit note in the form of a gift voucher from another company expires in 18 months, rather than a year. Is there a consumer's law that specify the time period? Do we always have to accept the company's terms and conditions?

As the issuance of a credit note is normally something offered which is in excess of your statotory rights, retailers are normally allowed to state their own T&C's with regards to them.
If there was anything on display or if it's written on the note itself to say when it expires, then I'm afraid it's down to the goodwill of the store as to whether or not they will accept it.
It might be worth contacting their head office to see if they would consider re-issuing it.0
