i had my aircon regassed a month ago. They said by law they had to check for leaks & the machine would stop if a leak was detected
All was fine til a couple weeks ago when pressing the ac button I could hear a noise (not loud ) under the bonnet & the aircon not feeling as cold at all or powerful
I suspect the worse
I'm going to take my car back there later this week - should I expect them to fully rectify any problems free?

No, I am afraid.0 -
These Kwikfit et al machines test for leaks under vacuum, the system works under pressure so a vacuum test can give misleading results. An aircon specialist will test the system correctly and my local man charges the same as these chains for a proper service and regas.0

Didn't use a chain & never know a garage that classes themselves as an aircon specialist or solely offer this service (apart from mobile aircon van people). They all use the same equipment0

a leak can happen & if this is the case they will not fix the problem for nothing, this can be expensive, i just hope you don't have a land rover, parts from main dealer who charge silly money for them0 -
Garage reckons it may be a leak. Told him I felt duped after what they told me last time but he said unless they use the more expensive dye method they can't guarantee no leak
Waiting to hear a diagnosis
How much we looking at to repair a leak for a f0cus?
And what if I didn't repair it?0 -
Just had lots of work done on my 56 reg focus. I used a mobile van person, who was very good!
He has come across many fords of that age that that spring tiny leaks in the condenser, mine was leaking across the back of the condenser - where the stones cannot get to.
That repair was £280. (New condenser and drier)
If you dont repair it, the AC pump will not engage, and you will just be carrying around a fair weight, and not have the cooling and drying from the AC. It will not harm your car in any other way.0 -
Can't afford it if that's the price
They should have been more explicit they said the machine would stop if there was a leak & there was little difference between this & dye method. It was mis sold0 -
You're talking about a service that was performed a month ago. Why would they be responsible?
If it's just a leak then don't use it.
I had the aircon clutch go a couple of years ago and that cost £500. That shredded the supplementary belt and I lost power steering so it had to be fixed.0 -

Sorry you don't understand
I was told that it would detect a leak for sure
Clearly this wasn't the case so soon after0 -
If it had a leak a month ago it would have stopped working in days. The a/c part of KF is one of the only things they do well.0
