Using one of these sites is no better than putting a pin in the locksmith page of yellow pages. Ask friends etc for revommendations.

Someone on here may be able to recommend someone if you say where you live.

    No, no, no etc.

Get a recommend or stick a pin in yellowpages. The latter is just as effective as these types of website.

If you can't get personal recommendations, have you tried the Trading Standards approved list, if you have one in your area? http://buywithconfidence.gov.uk/sitepages/bwchome.aspx or alternatively www.trustmark.org.uk, which is apparently Government backed.

To be honest a locksmith is a locksmith and they are all bloody expensive but there again you are (as with all trades) paying for their knowledge and experience and having the correct tools far more than you are paying for their time.

I used to administer a very similar scheme for a local council, trading standards department. I wouldn't rely on a tradesman purely because they're in a scheme. The checks TS do are often by basic, and only include things like they have an office, phone number. Some have a feedback system, but the sysms can be manipulate by unscrupulous traders......
Some schemes are almost just buying a badge. These schemes do not guarantee the value and skill of the tradesman, its far more abut their business practice's.
Get a personal reccomendation, or use a local shop you can physically go into.
  • plus i'd never let anyone called Smith mess about with my locks, sounds very dodgy to me :D
I'm only here while I wait for Corrie to start.

You get no BS from me & if I think you are wrong I WILL tell you.
