Patio door not closing properly

We have French window-style patio doors (i.e. not sliding). They were installed about 7-8 years ago.
The problem that's started up is that the doors 'click' when closing and it's getting progressively harder to actually turn the key in the lock. I've looked at the U-PVC on one door and there's a small 'gouge' in it as though a metal part from the other door is catching/bashing into it.
Any ideas how to solve this problem?

The hinges have dropped. Get them adjusted.

I got a 10 year guarantee with mine - recently had one of the French doors adjusted because it had dropped, and a new handle put on the front door, both FoC. Mine were installed 6/7 years ago.
It might be worth checking your contract if you still have it, before you pay someone else.0 -
hinges dropping -- is that going to happen regularly now, or is it a 'one off' that is fixed forever?0

Depends on why the hinges are dropping - if its just a need for tightening up then that should be good for a while - if its that the screws are pulling out of the frame such that they can't be retightened when adjusted then it may ultimately mean a replacement. I've got the same problem - I'd bet the gouging is towards the top of the door because the door is leaning top end towards the frame/other door (and by extension the bottom part is further away from the frame/door).
7-8 years old should still be in warranty if the supplier is still in business.Adventure before Dementia!0 -
Do you leave them open during the days? Please forgive me if my comments seem abrupt or my questions have obvious answers, I have a mental health condition which affects my ability to see things as others might.0

yes, they're open in good weather.
I did wonder if the hinges were 'man enough' for the doors but as I said, the problem's only just started up this last year.0 -
I think leaving them open has something to do with it, we have a wider than normal UPVC door that stays open all day in the summer and drops as a result. Luckily its nit the only access, so I shut it and apply firm pressure with my foot to the bottom corner to ensure it shuts, the lock it from the inside. Please forgive me if my comments seem abrupt or my questions have obvious answers, I have a mental health condition which affects my ability to see things as others might.0
