These courses are scams run on behalf of clueless incompetent Jobcentres/DWP/government by the Welfare & Workfare exploiters.

There is no chance this "qualification" is going anywhere near my CV.

    ...

I did an Employability course with LearnDirect when it was just being introduced.
    WORSE COURSE EVER!
The "employment coach" I have wants me to do another similar.

This qualification has never appeared on my CV or job applications and never will.
OMG Do I need a life laundry! :j

I wish places like this would use some common sense, I have a degree, so surely I must be pretty literate. My degree also happens to be in engineering, which is pretty maths heavy, so surely I've also got rather good numeracy skills.

I may just fill some of the questions with nonsense and fail on purpose, there's no way it's going on my CV anyway. It would be like sticking "dunce" on my CV. And if I failed maybe the course teaching would be looked into.

Understand the sentiment but I have seen many people with degrees and higher who have very low Literacy & Numeracy skills. Yes, they should use common sense and I would guess this course is not relevant to you but everyone, unless they can provide recent eveidence it has already been done, should have an assessment, it is a requirement of the funding designed to make sure any issues are highlighted. For example, it is entirely possible to get a good degree with severe dyslexia but until this is picked up in an assessment, any help will not be available.

Bit strong to say scams, for the right person, these courses can make a big difference. The problem comes when they are used as a 'one size fits all' solution which simply does not work.

if any of this makes a difference to someone I pity them as I wonder how they were in work to begin with.

Most people that benefit from this type of course have never been in work or not for a very long time. The new phrase is 'multi-generational worklessness'. Basically means that a young person has grown up in a home where they have never experienced the world of work from parents or grandparents. Just the basics from the employability courses are alien to them and so they can be of use, just not to everyone. Thats why I say there should be robust IAG (Information, Advice & Guidance) before any period of learning to make sure it is the right one for them.

You need to listen what people are saying about these cobbled together scam "activity" courses run by who knows, that people are being dumped on.
