Child tax credit

Hi can anyone help me please? I split from my husband and hav moved into rented accommodation with my partner and my three children, I work sixteen hrs term times at their school and earn £400 a month I also receive child benefit, does anyone know if I will b able to claim child tax credits , my husband is going to pay some maintenance but I don't have enough to pay all my share of the bills at the moment, grateful for any help thank you.

    It really depends on how much your new partner earns. You will need to make a joint claim for child tax credit. The maintenance from your husband won't count as income.

    Now that you have moved in with your partner then any benefit claims must be made jointly as his income and savings will be taken into account.

    Depending on your partners income and hours you may be entitled to both working tax credit (you need to be working 24 hours between you with at least one of you doing 16 hrs) and also child tax credit.

    If you want to share his salary then we could give you an idea if you would be eligible.

    Hi thank u both, he earns £23,000 a yr though our finances are separate, he works over 24 hrs and neither of us currently have any savings left.

    Your finances may be seperate, but for TC purposes, you are a household and they require household information.


    Do the claim yourself - phone them.

    You will need details of his income for the last tax year and his estimate for this one. He will also need to sign the claim form.
