Where to start with new porch

Options
Our house was a 3 bed semi which was then extended in the 70's to the side with a 2 story flat roof extension incorporating a garage on the ground floor and bedroom above. On the front of the original house is a wooden porch also from the 70's and by now rotting and coming away from the brick. When we bought the house, we found planning had been approved for the porch on a separate application to the other extensions (as there are also some at the rear!)

We now have to replace the porch, and would like dwarf brick walls, a tiled roof, UPVC door inside into the house (plus side windows to replace the original 70's external door) and UPVC or composite door to the outside of the porch. To try and "tie in" aesthetically the flat roof extension, we would like to extend the sloping tiled roof or the porch across the front of the garage.

I have no idea how much this will cost and how to start. Will the original planning for the porch cover replacement if we keep to the same footprint or as we want to add the roof extension will this require new planning? Do we approach a builder or a UPVC door/window company? Also, we are not keen on "traditional" doors, eg. those with lots of panels, rectangle windows etc. Can anyone recommend anywhere that does something modern or a bit different - I have googled but to no avail!

Adding a porch to any external door of your house is considered to be permitted development, not requiring an application for planning permission, provided:
    1. the ground floor area (measured externally) would not exceed three square metres.
    2. no part would be more than three metres above ground level (height needs to be measured in the same way as for a house extension).
    3. no part of the porch would be within two metres of any boundary of the dwellinghouse and the highway.
You can speak to a builder or UPVC window/door manufacturer and see what they suggest in regards to styles / design and they will also give you an estimate.
